I was trained as a physical therapist at UMMC PT school and knew I wanted to specialize in pelvic health before leaving school. In school I did a clinical rotation at The Birth Center of Baton Rouge, a freestanding midwife-led birthing center, with an in-house PT there. I enjoyed working closely with the midwives and their patients. By the end of that clinical rotation, I was totally hooked on the midwifery model of care and natural birth.
When I became a mother a couple of years later, I returned to the same birth center for my birth and got to experience an unmedicated birth firsthand.
As a PT, I’ve seen over and over again the long term effects, both positive and negative, that a woman’s birth has on her pelvic health. As a doula, I’ve been privileged to combine my PT knowledge of biomechanics and pelvic anatomy with my passion for physiological birth.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband of 10 years and our toddler, sewing, and being involved with our church, Ridgecrest.
